
Meet our founder, Maura!
Maura Manzo is the Founder and Director of Camaraderie and has been a respected leader in the Philadelphia yoga community for over 15 years. With experience as both a teacher and studio owner, she brings a grounded, transformative approach that blends traditional yoga with modern healing practices, all in service of personal and collective well-being. Maura is known for her approachable and accessible teaching style.
About Maura
Known for creating powerful experiences in both the classroom and community, Maura’s teaching helps students connect more deeply to themselves. Her work is informed by extensive training with influential teachers and organizations, including Seane Corn, Off the Mat into the World, buildOn, Hope for Haiti, Nikki Myers, and the Himalayan Institute. Her areas of study include trauma-informed yoga, energy work and justice informed care.
Maura has earned recognition in her field, including the Best of Philly award (twice!), and is celebrated for her authenticity, heart-centered leadership, and commitment to community. She leads immersive events and retreats that blend yoga, nature, food, and holistic practices to support deep mind-body wellbeing, joy and connection!
Lineage & Influences
A long-time student of Seane Corn, Maura's studies have also included the work of Hala Khouri, Suzanne Sterling, Michelle Cassandra Johnson, Kerri Kelly, and others at the intersection of yoga, social justice, and trauma. More locally, she’s been inspired by the work of her dear friends Meghan Dwyer, Candace Stevens and Kerri Hanlon. Her work is also informed by her time studying and working alongside the following organizations: Off the Mat into the World, buildOn, Hope for Haiti and the Himalayan Institute. Her areas of study include trauma-informed yoga, energy work and justice informed care. Her work with Anodea Judith’s chakra philosophy, especially Eastern Body, Western Mind, is central to her teaching + facilitating methodology.
Outside the yoga sphere, Maura completed two years of professional development with Lakeside Global Institute, deepening her trauma-informed lens. She also draws inspiration from feminine mysticism, Earth-based spirituality, and writers such as Meggan Watterson, John O’Donohue, Mark Nepo, and Richard Rohr.
Maura began her wellness journey at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and contributed for years to Philadelphia Magazine’s Be Well Philly Blog + Ask the Expert column. Her philanthropic work has helped raise over $500,000 for health, education, and sustainable development worldwide. She has helped build 6 schools in 5 different countries: Nepal, Senegal, Malawi, Nicaragua and Haiti. She also co-founded Yoga Home in Conshohocken with Kerri Hanlon in 2010. Maura remains a committed advocate for compassionate leadership, community engagement, and conscious living.
In her free time, Maura loves hiking in the Wissahickon, cooking in the kitchen or spending time with her many nieces + nephews. One of her favorite local spots is Morris Arboretum, one of her favorite cities is Rome and her favorite author currently is tied between Sue Monk Kidd and Charlotte McConaghy.
