Permission Stones + a Culture of Consent
We hear you - some of you want to be touched more during class. And some are cool being left alone. Ultimately, it’s your choice!
Now, we’re making it even easier for you to communicate what you want on any given day. Permission stones promote a culture of autonomy and consent - you’re in charge of what happens in your practice.
Consent is opting-in. Opting-in requires active, explicit student consent before the activity at hand, while opting-out assumes consent and requires students to actively refuse it.
We promote a culture of consent: opting-in helps shift power dynamics from the teacher to the student.
You’ll find the basket of permission stones on the shelves with the other props (it’s a mix of stones, crystals, shells, etc). Take one and place it on the top corner of your mat if you are OK with hands-on touch during class. Please keep the stones on your mat so the teacher doesn’t step on them (ouch!)
*There will never be hands-on touch during our Yoga for Mental Health class.
